"The Crown of Southern Cooking, Recipes from the Birthplace of the Blues" was released in July 2015 and we are so proud of our book filled with food memories. The recipes are the favorites from our restaurant, The Crown in Indianola, Mississippi and from generations ofour family! Lot of stories are included about the origins of the Southern classic dishes and about our own love of food that we found during our travels and made our own!
The book has 174 recipes that are simple and detailed with cooking hints and many ways to prepare dishes ahead of time, making entertainingmore fun. The many color photos of the food taken in The Crown and at our home and the pictures will make you hungry!
Indianola is the home of B.B. King and we included a tribute to The King of the Blues in the book along with some stories about serving B.B. at fundraising events as the B.B. King Museum was being built. It's very much a memory book for me, as I was writing it and for anyone who has traveled in the Mississippi Delta, visited Indianola's world class B.B. King Museum and enjoyed the sounds of the Delta Blues.
The book is paperback and at $19.95, makes a perfect gift for all kinds of events....weddings, birthdays, housewarmings, hostess gifts and just because you want to share a good book with a friend! I'll be happy to autograph the book and personalize it for you. Just let me know! And please share your comments about the book and the recipes you prepare with me on this website! I love to talk food!
How long has it been since you've had old fahsioned Fried Peach Pies? Growing up in my grandmother's kitchen, these pies were the dessert we waited for, standing by the stove, waiting for them to come out of her cast iron skillet! Such flavor and memories! Sage helped me make these pies for the picture, taken on the deck of our house, and we enjoyed every bite. We shared a few that day, and they are even good stone cold! The rich filling of dried peaches and crisp pastry makes a fabulous dessert!
I sincerely want the book to make new friends for the Museum, the Mississippi Delta, for Indianola and The Crown. I hope you'll enjoy the recipes and come to visit us in Indianola.....we love our old friends and making new friends of everyone who walks in our door! I'll be looking for you!
